UPFPWDS monitors and promotes the implementation of policies and laws so as to improve the well-being of PWDs.
We influence the review of all existing policies and laws related to PWDs to promote and protect their rights in all development sectors in Uganda’s economy.
We advocate with local government to pass bylaws and ordinances to promote PWDs protection at the community levels.
We advocate for the monitoring, inspection and supervision of PWDs who are in institutional care so as to ensure their protection and improvement of their well-being.
UPFPWDs always establishes partnership with stakeholders and development partners so as to undertake analysis of the respective Ministry Policy Statements and the national budget from PWDs’ rights perspective, to inform UPFPWDs advocacy work.
We advocate for increased resource allocation at both local and central level and also hold engagement meetings with development partners so that they may fund national and local government budgets.
We hold engagements with development partners and their respective missions to mobilize resources for the national and local government budget lines, for the well-being of PWDs.
Developing resource mobilization strategies to enable UPFPWDs engage development partners for funding for national and local government budgets.
UPFPWDs advocate for the integration of PWDs’ issues in local government budgets so as to support local government structures for PWDs’ protection and promotion of their well-being.
Engaging the different Parliamentary Committees to monitor progress on the implementation of policies, laws and programmes for the welfare of PWDs.
Conducting stakeholder meetings with the MLGSD to receive annual updates on government’s compliance and protocols relating to PWDs.
Raising awareness on the situation of PWDs and emerging developments for the benefits of PWDs.
UPFPWDs works with both the Government of Uganda and development partners to develop advocacy skills for MPs so as to help in enactment of laws that addresses the existing and emerging gaps in PWDs issues.
We undertake targeted capacity building sessions for UPFPWDs members and secretariat staff on PWDs’ rights promotion and protection.
UPFPWDs has been strengthening it’s governance, management and coordination functions. This has been important in the management of human and financial resources.
We are always increasing our visibility and presence at all levels. We have social media accounts to let the public know more about us. Our members also actively participate in radio talks, celebration of Parliament Disability Awareness (PDA) Day and International Day of Disability.
